IKEA-Simulator

Hi!

This was my first serious attempt at making a game in Unity.

As always with making things you have not made before, I underestimated the time it would take. I thought I would be able to make it in 2 days but it ended up taking about 4 or 5 days instead. In the beginning I used premade assets, which I changed to my own assets later on, and combined a bunch of basic tutorials, like Brackeys on YouTube and some indian gameDev channels for example, in order to get the base game mechanincs done. I already had an idea of how I wanted the game to be when I started, I think that helped me actually complete the project. I have wanted to finish my own game for a really long time but this is the first time I actually managed to do so. With a menu screen and publishing the thing and everything. So I am proud of that! I originally wanted the game to start of with a person in IKEA accidentaly lighting som “Gävlebock”, highly flammable, furniture on fire and then having trouble escaping the IKEA building because of the maze like layout. It was to hard for me to get the fire part working though, so I had to skip it if I wanted to finish the project. The hardest part was getting the countdown clock to work properly. I nearly gave up until I noticed what my problem was. I could not use the “using UnityEngine.UI” code since I was not using the latest version of Unity, this made the “text” functions I had made churn out an error. So a good tip is to update Unity before you try to make your first game.

Good luck with your games! Thanks to all tutorial makers out there,

have fun making your first game!
